When Diocletian moved against the Christians, George gave all his wealth to the poor, freed his servants and confessed Christ before the emperor. They tortured him to make him deny. He would not. He bent his neck beneath the sword on 23 April 303, and the Church keeps his feast on that day.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eΤροπαιοφόρος, Trophy-bearer: the soldier who carries the spoils home. His victory was not over an army. It was over fear, torture and death.
