Ἄσκησις. Training.
Askesis was the Greek word for an athlete's training before the Fathers took it up for the spiritual struggle: fasting, vigil, prayer, the body brought under the will. The three-bar Orthodox cross stands over the word.
"Exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things."
— 1 Timothy 4:7–8
ΑΣΚΗΣΙΣ under a three-bar Orthodox cross, embroidered in white on the left leg. Black or Heather Grey.
