Great Martyr George, the Trophy-bearer.
A Roman officer who refused to deny Christ when Diocletian’s persecution began, and was martyred for it around 303. The Church calls him Tropaiophoros, the Trophy-bearer, because his victory was won by staying faithful to death. The dragon beneath his spear in the icon is the old serpent, defeated.
