Made to order for you, then shipped with tracking.
Thirty steps. One ladder.
Around the year 600, St John, abbot of Sinai, wrote The Ladder of Divine Ascent (Κλῖμαξ) for his monks: thirty steps from renunciation of the world to faith, hope and love. The Church keeps his memory on the Fourth Sunday of Great Lent, and monasteries still read the Ladder through the Fast.
The back carries the twelfth-century icon from his own monastery at Sinai. Monks climb toward Christ while demons fire arrows and drag men from the rungs. Some fall. All thirty steps run beside it, with Step 6, remembrance of death, and Step 30, faith, hope and love, marked in red.
"Ascend, my brothers, ascend eagerly."
— St John Climacus, Step 30
