Kyrios Sabaoth. The Lord of Hosts.
Isaiah saw the Lord “sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up,” and the seraphim cried, “Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory” (Isaiah 6:1–3). St John tells us whose glory it was: “These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him” (John 12:41). The Lord of the armies of heaven is Christ.
“The LORD reigneth; let the people tremble: he sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved.” Psalm 99:1 (98:1 in the Septuagint). The seraphim’s hymn is sung at every Divine Liturgy.
