The three-bar cross of the Slavic Orthodox tradition shows the Crucifixion as it happened. The short top bar is the title Pilate nailed above Him, King of the Jews. The long bar is where His arms were stretched out for the life of the world. The slanted bar at His feet is raised on His right, toward the thief who repented, and falls on His left, toward the one who mocked.
